My Bag

Remember that bag I wanted?  Well, I redeemed my Air Miles in order to get $60 from Roots.  They arrived today.  I went to the mall today, just to look at it.  They had a few different colours, and I wavered between the grey and brown… but the brown was the one I loved.  So, of course, I bought it.

I usually carry a lot of stuff in my purse, so I had to downsize greatly.  As it is, I can fit everything I absolutely need for a regular day at work.  The only thing that doesn’t quite fit are my sunglasses, which I usually only use for driving anyway.  Roots offers a 1 year warranty on the hardware and a lifetime guarantee on the leather.  Pretty sweet.  Overall, I am pleased!

So, while I had everything out, I thought I would play along with the “What’s in My Bag” meme and show y’all what I tote around with me on a daily basis:

in my bag

1. My sunglasses, prescription.

2. My cell phone.  A Motorola KRZR.  Not quite an iPhone, but it works for now.

3. Small Matt & Nat pouch with room for things like band-aids, bobby pins and a pocket mirror.

4. My planner.  This thing is my life, I would be lost without it.  It holds all my plans and work schedule, as well as any small bit of paper I need to hold on to.

5. My Matt & Nat wallet.  I’ve had it for about a year and a half and it’s holding up extremely well!  And I love that colour green.

6. My iPod.  I wouldn’t survive the hour commute to and from work without it!

7. Metropass.  Costs a lot of money each month, but allows me to ride the subways, buses and streetcars as much as I want.

8. Pens, a highlighter, and my work ID.  I wear them around my neck every day at work and it allows me access to the building.

9. Stride sweet mint gum.  So tasty!

10. Lip gloss.  My workplace is super dry, so my lips are always chapped.  Lypsyl and Burt’s Bees, my faves.

11. Hand sanitizer.  Because I work with the homeless and live in Toronto.  I don’t want any germs from any animal.

12. My keys.  I recently downsized my keychain, which is definitely made my purse lighter.

13. Okay, there is no 13 on the picture, but not shown are the contents of the small inside pocket that ladies use for lady things.  I think that’s only fair.

I hope you enjoyed that little peek into my personal stuff!  You all should probably show me yours now, right?

Kinda jealous. Not for the bag itself, but the fact that you have a new bag. My work bag is falling apart. The strap has been non-functional for a long time. The carrying handles were falling apart to the point where I wrapped them up with black electrical tape just to make it sort of presentable. It doesn’t look as bad now, but it’s still markedly old.

Thing is…it’s holding up remarkably well for a bag that’s 4 years old and gets daily use. It still does exactly what I want to do: it holds stuff and allows me to carry shit.

And perhaps that’s why I just can’t thoil it.

(Heh, like how I used that word? lol)

I’ve always had a bit of a purse buying issue, but lately it’s just been me trying to find one that works for what I need it, something good looking but insanely practical in that it holds what it needs to. And I like purses that go cross-body for TTC convenience.
I think if I were walking around with a taped-up bag, my parents would have a fit. As much as they are practical people, they always taught me that appearance is important, so if something’s looking very used, we can thoil to get a new one.
I hope I used that in proper context! :P

I just Olga’s comment on her latest post, so I had to check this out. It is my beloved Roots purse. Isn’t it just the most perfect purse, ever? Across the body is definitely it’s selling point.

Also, it makes me feel better that I see another 20-something owning it. Up until now, I only spotted mom’s sporting it.

Oh it is a perfect purse! And it is SO not a Mom purse, those Moms just clearly want to be as cool as us!

You have a WAY more organized purse than I do! A quick check into mine: my iPhone, headphones, charger, journal, small wallet, pens, lip gloss, mail that needs to be opened, and a Target receipt.
